Senior Staff Design Engineer

LG is developing the next great technology for imaging. We are looking for a dynamic experienced Pixel Design Engineer who has significant experience designed CMOS image sensors, CIS. The main role is based on developing novel pixel architectures and will include pixel design and hands on layout. We need someone with strong knowledge in CMOS pixel design, semiconductor device physics, material science, pixel layout, operation, architectures, timing, bias conditions and noise reduction.


• Experience as a lead pixel designer

• In depth knowledge of 3T through 7T and shared transistor pixel architectures, operation and readout

• Hands on design experience with low noise and HDR pixels

• Strong CIS process integration experience and process sequence planning

• Solid Device Physics knowledge as it relates to CIS pixels

• Strong knowledge of semiconductor devices, Diode, BJT, MOS transistors

• Expert with typical layout tools

• Solid understanding of TCAD and optical simulation tools (ex: Lumerical FDTD Solutions)

• Hands on design of pixel timing, voltage budgeting, noise filtering and dark current management/reduction

• Knowledge on CIS analog circuits

• HSPICE/Spectre circuit simulation experience

• Experience with design of color filters and ulenses

• Experience with DOE

• Familiarity with Pixel and Analog ROIC simulation methods/tools and Noise Modeling

• Solid understanding of CIS characterization, Jd, EQE, SNR, DR etc

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Image sensor pixel and photoplane design effort

• Coordinate design with analog and digital team’s design efforts to assure best in class electrical and optical performance image sensor

• Work with layout and process integration teams to assure high yielding, low cost designs

• Support the development of state of the art silicon to organic, or quantum dot interfaces

• Conduct modeling and simulation of pixels and photoplanes

• Work closely with analog/digital design team to troubleshoot chip/system level performance issues

• Support device verification and OPD characterization to decide future development direction

• Support approaches for characterizing Organic Image Sensor/camera system’s performances

• Conduct modeling and simulation of imaging systems

• Work with Designer & IQ(image quality) evaluation

Education/Related Experience

Requires a minimum of a Masters in Electronic engineering/Physics, PhD preferred

• Minimum of 8 years of industry experience in CMOS Image Sensor or CCD pixel design

• Deep understanding of semiconductor device physics (both theoretical and practical)

• Expert understanding of pixel operation, pixel architectures, operation timing, bias conditions

• Basic understanding of organic photodiode structure and operation

• Familiar with organic photodiode I-V and EQE analysis

• Familiarity with Quantum Dot materials/sensors

• Experience in Mask tape-out process and review the mask data

• Experience in CMOS image sensor process integration work

• Strong communication, presentation and documentation skills

• Demonstrated team work and leadership

Preferred Requirements;

• Able to travel internationally

• English language proficiency, Korean language proficiency a plus

• Knowledge of organic photodiode sensor, design experience a plus
